Summary InterPIG 2022
The information from InterPIG 2022 shows that Spain maintains a better Result than the EU4 group (+11 c€/kg). The reason is a higher Sell price (+13,3 c€), that compensates the loss of competitivity in the Cost of production (-2,4 c€/kg).
In sell price, it remains a similar advantage than in 2021. However, the advantage of the last years in Production cost has been lost.
Compared with the USA, Spain has an important disadvantage in the Production cost (-27 c€/kg) and in the final Result (-29 c€/kg).
InterPIG annual meeting
The last 5th, 6th and 7th of June, the annual InterPIG conference took place on Ames (IA, USA). On this meeting, the different members presented the 2022 production costs and factors of the different countries.
On this occasion, the most important topic of the session was the animal welfare and the costs linked to the new European legislations.
The enforcement of PROP 12 in California was also a topic that generated a lot of debate.
After a difficult year for almost all the countries, Spain continues being the leader in European pig production.

IX SIP Meeting
The last 26th of January the IX SIP Meeting was held in Lleida (Palau de Congressos – La Llotja), organized every two years.
All the customers of the SIP Model were convened in this meeting and around 400 producers from Spain, Italy and Portugal attended it. On this occasion it also existed the possibility to follow the congress on streaming.
The reports that were presented on this edition were: 1) The swine sector in Spain, 2) International Benchmarking, 3) Fixed costs analysis, 4) Complementary tools and services, 5) Health challenge: an analysis of 4 PRRS cases, are there differences between geographic zones?, economic impact of the health deterioration, and an animal health expert point of view.
All the presentations were carried out by SIP members, except for An animal health expert point of view that was done by Lorenzo Fraile, doctor and professor at the University of Lleida.
The main source of information for the preparation of the reports is retrieved from the SIP database. It contains technical and economic information of farms from about 250 companies with 1,5 million productive sows.
Summary InterPIG 2021
The InterPIG data for 2021 indicates that Spain maintains a good position within European production, despite losing competitiveness in the production cost.
PRODUCTION COST: it is 6 c€/kg lower than the EU4 group (ES: 121 c€ – EU4: 127). In 2021 the advantage of ES against EU4 has significantly reduced.
SALES PRICE: it is 13 c€/kg better than the EU4 average (ES: 123 c€ – EU4: 110). In 2021 the advantage of ES against EU4 has increased.
RESULT: in Spain it has been very moderate (1,5 c€), however, it is a margin 19 c€/kg better than the EU4 group (-17 c€).
InterPIG annual meeting
27th, 28th and 29th of June took place in Hungry the annual InterPIG Conference. The costs and production factors of the different member countries were shown, corresponding to the year 2021.
This year the meeting was influenced by the high increase of raw materials price and, therefore, production cost. Also, the consequences that ASF have in some affected countries, played an important role.
Although the complex situation that the pig sector is living, Spain has consolidated its position as the biggest producer in Europe and it continues being a reference worldwide.

VIII SIP Congress
Last Tuesday 28tth of January, the VIII SIP Congress was celebrated at ‘’la Llotja’’ (Lleida, Spain), organized every two years.
All the customers of the SIP Model were invited. About 400 farmers from Spain, Italy and Portugal attended the Congress.
The presentations in this edition were: 1) World markets and pig deconstruction 2) International Benchmarking 3) The swine sector in Spain 4) The current limits of pig production 5) AVE: sales App 6) LOG: sales logistics.
The presentations were all made by the technicians of SIP with the exception of the “World market and pig deconstruction” which was carried out by Kiko Abenia of Vall Companys Group.
The main source of information for the preparation of the reports is retrieved from the SIP database. It contains technical and economic information of farms from about 250 companies with 1,3 million productive sows.

Last Thursday, on January 25th the VII SIP Congress, which is celebrated every two years, took place in la Llotja (Lleida).

InterPIG annual meeting 2016
InterPIG annual meeting took place in Mataró (Barcelona) from 25th to 27th June and it was organized by SIP.
The meeting was attended by 25 participants from 16 countries: the main European ones besides Brazil and USA.
The main objectives of this meeting are: 1) describe the characteristics of the pig sector in the host country, 2) share the technical and economic performance of individual countries.

InterPIG annual meeting 2016
InterPIG annual meeting will take place in Spain (Mataró) on 27, 28 and 29 of June and will be organized by SIP Consultors.
The event will be attended by representatives of the main European producers and the United States, Canada, Brazil and South Korea.
The aim of the meeting is to present and discuss the 2015 production costs.
In addition, some speakers will present the most relevant aspects of Spanish pig sector and finally all the group will visit a farm to see the reality of the Spanish production.
We are proud to organize this meeting. We think it’s positive to celebrate the meeting in Spain given the high competitive level of the pig sector.

VI SIP Congress - Video
VI SIP Congress (2015)
On September 26th, it took place the VI edition of the SIP Congress in Lleida (La Llotja).
450 farmers from all Spain, Portugal and Italy attended the Congress.
The Congress included the presentation of several studies and reports regarding both technical and economic aspects of swine production.

Collaboration in research work

Annual Meeting InterPIG Group
SIP has participated in the annual meeting of InterPIG group. This year it has been in Florianópolis (Santa Catarina, Brazil) from 22 to 24 June.
At the meeting the costs and production factors of the member countries were presented, corresponding to 2014.
The group includes the main European countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, France, Holland, Italy, Ireland, UK and Sweden; as well as Brazil, Canada and USA.
The meeting ended with a visit to Sinop (Matto Grosso), to visit a farm of 3,500 sows and 4,000 hectares of soybean and corn.
